Cassandra C. Jones is a cutting edge artist who finds paradox and contradiction in the world around her. Does an artist create public opinion or mirror it? Are artists the first to reflect on undercurrents in society? Does material taken from other sources become art when shaped and focused by an individual artist? Does technology limit or expand an artist’s creative power? Cassandra C. Jones is an artist who delights in such questions. Utilizing thousands of snapshots found in the public domain, she groups and manipulates them until completely new images are formed. Using technology, she transforms these photos into video and large-scale installations that comment on the roles of photography within both our personal lives and the world around us. Cassandra’s work shows that, in her words, “alone, each photo has a diverse meaning but when placed together reveal(s) larger stories of history, ritual, desire and innate human aesthetics, regardless of author.” Her work encourages the viewer to find in what are, at times, banal moments a common experience that helps us understand our place in the world.

Cassandra Jones’ was documented in 2008 and was sponsored by Wanda and Jim Stroud. The FOTM Archive contains extensive information about this artist.
