Bill Viola is internationally recognized as one of today’s leading artists.  In 2011 he was named a Praemium Imperiale Laureate, one of the world’s most prestigious art awards.  Another project, two permanent installations commissioned by St. Paul’s Cathedral in London, deals with the life cycle of the Virgin Mary, a segment of which was filmed in Ojai, California.  Of his work Viola says,  “When you’re dealing with media as opposed to painting and sculpture, you’re really dealing with something that has to find its eternity in a different way.  It’s a moving target, an active and evolving technology.”
